Registered Nurse - CVICU (Cardio Vascular Intensive Care)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule & Work Details

• Shift Hours: 7 PM - 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
• Charting System: EPIC experience required
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Locals: Nurses within 75 miles are not accepted
• Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2 (Impella nurse ratio 1:2 with occasional 1:1 based on acuity)
• Unit Beds: 16 beds with critically ill cardiac surgery patients

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
• ACLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
• BLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
• NIHSS
• Other certifications as required by unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Required Clinical Skills

• Arterial line, central line, PICC line management
• Blood product administration
• Ventilator management, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP support
• Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
• Care of ventilated patients, ABG interpretation
• Continuous IV sedation and paralytics, emergency medications, procedural sedation administration and monitoring
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Experience with CABG, Impella, IABP, LVAD/RVAD, Swan-Ganz monitoring
• CVVHD/CRRT, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Infection prevention, PPE use, wound vac care
• Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure

Patient Population & Unit Highlights

• Patients with sepsis, ARDS, renal failure, heart failure, pre-VAD workups, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, multi-organ failure, post cardiac arrest/targeted temperature management, respiratory failure/shock, CRRT, EKOS, IABP, ECMO
• The CVICU provides expert care for critically ill cardiac surgery patients including heart transplant and advanced cardiac device management
• 24/7 provider coverage with a collaborative multidisciplinary team
• Magnet-recognized acute care teaching facility

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse - CVICU
• Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ years in critical care or CVICU based on specialty complexity
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government Issued Photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
• Education verification from primary source required
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
• References and employment verification required for travel agency compliance
• State-specific checks including NYS Nurse Aide Registry, Criminal Background Fingerprint, Sex Offender Registry, Medicaid Exclusion List as applicable

Additional Notes

• Must submit RTO, block, and special scheduling requests upon submission
• Client may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract without charges
• Scrub color: Navy blue and white combinations
