Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg & PCU Competent)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: 36/36 or 36/48 (use whichever is appropriate for the employment agreement)
- No call required; rotating weekends
- Floating required (RNs must be competent in Med/Surg and PCU)
- Hospital may cancel/call off one shift biweekly without financial penalty if census decreases
- Additional shifts above commitment are overtime and may be flexed based on census/resource needs
- Expected to actively participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
- General orientation begins on Sundays (16 hours of nonbillable orientation)
- Traveler must live within 100 miles of the facility
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in specialty (Med/Surg & PCU)
- Accepts first-time travelers
- Prior travel experience: Not required
Certifications Required
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (verify if required or preferred)
Licensure & Verification
- State License primary source verification required
- NURSYS verification required
- Education verification required
Background Checks & Compliance
- Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check if licensed/certified in TN or working in TN
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
- Drug testing: Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity/declination for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)
Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
- Competency exam required
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge within 48 hours of signed contract (ID photo standards apply)
- Completion of various facility-specific forms including dress code, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps/body fluid exposure statement, influenza policy, respirator medical evaluation questionnaire, and respiratory medical clearance form
- Respiratory fit mask testing completed onsite for patient contact staff
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be prepared for floating and support of nursing students
- Orientation includes online components and is time-sensitive
- Hospital supports a flexible schedule with potential shift cancellations without penalty due to census fluctuations
