Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
- Required Years of Experience: 1 year
- First-Timers Accepted: Yes (1st timer AYA offer)
- Shift Requirements:
- Weekend shifts required minimum every other weekend; may exceed to meet unit needs
- No on-call required
- Floating required between like units, including possible float to Providence Mission Laguna
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Block Scheduling: May be accommodated at manager's discretion
- Local Radius: 50 miles
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: Free
Required Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
- BLS (American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required every 2 years)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Other certifications may be required based on unit and clinical track (e.g., PALS, NRP, CPI)
Licensure
- Active California RN license required (pending licenses not accepted)
- NURSYS verification required
- CPDH certificate required for RTs in California (if applicable)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year ICU nursing experience required
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
- Must be able to float between similar units
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Fit mask testing required (updated annually; onsite testing available if needed)
- Immunizations and/or documentation required:
- TDAP (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID vaccine or declination
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests accepted)
Background & Compliance
- Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Education verification required (nursing degree verification mandatory)
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required
- Skills checklist updated annually (applicable units)
- References and employment history must be verifiable and complete
- State-specific background checks and registries as applicable
Floating & Scheduling Policies
- May be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
- Weekend shifts minimum every other weekend, may exceed based on unit needs
- Block scheduling available at manager discretion
Training & Modules
- Completion of Providence WorkRamp Core and Specialty Modules required prior to start
- Epic training modules required (especially for SoCal region)
- Annual regulatory and compliance training modules required
- Specialty-specific training modules for ICU and float pool roles

This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and who are comfortable working in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment using Epic charting. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
