Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Unit: 4E PCU/MedSurg (Progressive Care Unit / Medical-Surgical)
- Patient Population: Cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiology, endocrine, oncology
- Shift Options: 3x12-hour shifts or 4x12-hour shifts
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: To be discussed
- Locals: Not accepted
- Pending License: Accepted, but must obtain Indiana, compact, or temporary license prior to start
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Experience & Certifications
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 18 months in nursing (higher value confirmed)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred
- Preferred Certifications/Experience:
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Experience with cardiac care including dysrhythmias, post-cardiac surgery, TAVI/TAVR
- Arterial line, central line, PICC line management
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath/intervention, Sheath Removal, Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD/RVAD/Impella)
Unit & Equipment Details
- Unit Type: CVICU with flex acuity including MedSurg, Progressive Care, ICU cardiovascular and oncology patients
- Patient Diagnoses: Cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiology, endocrine, oncology
- Special Procedures: CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, VATS
- Equipment: All private rooms with overhead lifts, telemetry monitoring
Work Hours & Scheduling
- Guaranteed Hours:
- 8 and 10-hour shifts: 40 hours/week
- 3x12-hour shifts: 36 hours/week
- 4x12-hour shifts: 48 hours/week
Licensing & Compliance
- Must obtain Indiana RN license (IN, compact, or temporary) prior to start
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background Checks: Criminal, SSN Trace, Education Verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education: Official transcript or diploma required (may be pending at start)
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and others as applicable
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology test, unit competency exam, color blind testing
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Immunizations: TB test, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (strongly recommended)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles
- Employment Application: Must be current and explain any gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months and annually

- Must be comfortable working across PCU and MedSurg units as needed
- Charge pay available (additional compensation for charge nurse duties)
