Registered Nurse (PICU) - Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Nights, 36 hours/week
Start Date: ASAP; ideally within 4-6 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years PICU RN experience
  • Pediatric ICU experience: At least 1 year required for traveler
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
  • Position: PICU Nurse
  • Schedule: Night shift

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
  • Proof of E-Verify or Attestation
  • Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
  • Background Check (within 3 months of start): includes county checks for past 7 years, sex offender search, statewide search for Missouri and Kansas
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start, updated every 6 months)
  • State License Verification (Primary Source Verification)
  • NURSYS Verification (for all RNs)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually
  • Immunizations and Health Documents:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with specific timing requirements)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Proof of vaccination or titers required
    • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series, titer, or declination
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Medical/Religious Exemption (current season required)
  • Missouri Highway Patrol Check (state-specific requirement)
  • Facility-specific forms including health form, TB questionnaire, medication review packet, and time-sensitive contract forms

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Pediatric pharmacology competency exam
  • Pediatric competency exam
  • Medication calculation/dosage test during orientation (100% passing required; three attempts allowed)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for clinical candidates)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for RNs
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification if applicable (not required for PICU RN)

  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Any kid-friendly color or pattern
  • Parking: Free with permit
  • References: Two supervisory references or performance evaluations verified within 1 year of start
  • Performance evaluations and internal evaluations required if applicable based on tenure

This position is ideal for experienced PICU RNs with prior travel experience looking for a night shift contract in a leading pediatric hospital setting.
