Description

Registered Nurse (Pediatric ED) - Travel/Contract

Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide professional nursing care following standards set by the American Nurses Association and Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to promote optimal health for pediatric patients and families.
  • Deliver proficient nursing care based on detailed patient/family assessments and hospital mission.
  • Promote a patient and family experience-oriented environment.
  • Act as a change agent to meet rapidly changing census and customer needs.

Schedule

  • Shift: 11 PM - 7 AM
  • Scheduled days based on unit needs

Experience & Education Requirements

  • Specialty: Pediatric Emergency Department (ED)
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years Pediatric ED experience (preferred)
  • Education: BSN required
  • Licensure: Active and unrestricted RN license in Ohio

Certifications Required

  • CPR
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred for PICU/Pediatrics
  • Other certifications as applicable (e.g., TNCC, NRP preferred but not required)

Float Expectations

  • Must float across all ED sites (Main ED, Crisis Center at Mathile) and inpatient units as needed.
  • May be assigned to South ED based on staffing needs.
  • Participate in Mental Health Crisis Center as part of ED RN rotation.
  • Float to Specialty Pediatric Units (Med/Surg), PICU, NICU, or Transitional Care Unit when ED census is low.
  • Responsible for care of 1-4 patients depending on acuity and unit.

Required Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs)
  • Unit-specific competency exam with passing score, updated annually

Health & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within one year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) completed onsite on first day of orientation (Ohio state law)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap vaccine
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccines
    • Varicella titer or vaccines
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination with facility-specific form
  • 10-panel drug screen completed prior to start, updated if break in service >2 months
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season

Documentation & History Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment application including 2 years prior clinical practice in acute care and similar area
  • Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
  • Performance evaluations if worked over 1 year; internal evaluations if over 2 years

Additional Notes

  • Facility does not accept candidates with corrective action on license.
  • Navy scrubs or navy/black scrub pants required as per dress code.

Prior Travel Experience
