Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (1900-0730)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Experience & Education Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (highest required)
  • BSN preferred
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Licensure & Certifications

  • RN State License and/or Compact State Licensure required
  • Pending license acceptable if obtained prior to start
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for Emergency Department RNs prior to start; ICU RNs only if assignment exceeds 1 year
    • NIH Stroke Certification - Required annually for Acute Hospital RN in specified units
    • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) - Required if extending past initial contract or for specific units (Emergency Dept., Mental Health)
  • Primary source verification required for certifications and state license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required

Facility & Work Environment

  • 352 certified beds
  • Level II Trauma Center and Level II Stroke Center
  • Uses EPIC for charting
  • Free parking available
  • Locals accepted at reduced rate within 50-mile radius

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including:
    • National Criminal Check
    • State and County Searches (10 years)
    • SSN Trace
    • National Sex Offender Check
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM
    • HHS/OIG
  • Education verification (official transcript or diploma with graduation date)
  • Missouri-specific EDL search within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within last 12 months (not required annually)
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, updated annually; additional requirements if positive TB
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity (2 doses or positive titer or declination accepted) for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (not required annually)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required or agency-approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years
  • Employment application, skills checklist, and work history verification required
  • Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, code of conduct, orientation quiz, and arrhythmia study guide must be completed

Testing & Competency Exams

  • Basic Dysrhythmia (EKG) exam required for all acute hospital RNs and LPNs; must score 84% or higher with up to 2 attempts (ICU only 1 attempt)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication required for acute hospital staff
  • Remediation process in place for failed attempts (except ICU)

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work in a Level II Trauma and Stroke Center with a supportive environment and comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
