Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (OR RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM), plus call, occasional weekends and holidays
  • Weekend Requirement: Weekend rotation with staff
  • On Call Requirement: Call rotation with staff
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Scheduling Requests: All requests must be included in submission
  • Call Off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Locals Accepted: No
  • Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes, if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC)

Required Clinical Skills

  • Circulate and scrub experience required
  • Must be able to scrub total joints, craniotomies/neuro, ortho trauma
  • Ortho and Neuro experience required

Unit Details

  • Patient Population: Neonates, Infants, Adolescents, Pediatrics, Geriatrics
  • Level I trauma OR with 25 OR suites, 24/7 onsite nursing coverage
  • Services include general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastics, gynecology, oncology, robotic surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, pediatrics, sports medicine
  • Special Equipment: ROSA, Si and Xi daVinci robots, stealth, O-Arm, HIPEC

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (OR)
  • Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but must have ortho and neuro experience and ability to scrub complex surgeries (implies experienced RN)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • I9 or attestation required
  • Driver’s License/State ID required within 48 hours of signing; must meet radius criteria (within 100 miles)
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • Background Check: 7-year history within 1 year of start; must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education Verification: Highest earned degree verification required
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start
  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, free from communicable diseases
  • Fit Test within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
  • Flu Vaccination or declination form required during flu season
  • References: 2 clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
  • Employment Application/Resume required
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
  • Photo for badge required (professional photo with plain background)

Additional Notes

  • No locals accepted for this position
  • Must comply with all facility-specific compliance and orientation requirements prior to start
  • Candidate must review and acknowledge orientation materials as required
  • Facility is a Level I Trauma Center with Magnet designation for nursing excellence

This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with ortho and neuro surgical skills who are open to travel assignments and meet the licensing and compliance requirements. First-time travelers are welcome.
