Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Richmond, Virginia

Unit: Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU/CVICU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU/CVICU) at a Level 1 facility
  • Must have prior CSICU/CVICU experience
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system is mandatory (no exceptions)
  • Rotating shifts: several weeks on one schedule, then switch

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse with CSICU/CVICU experience

  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting: Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check required for certain units; results can pend but proof of submission must be on file
  • Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and documentation required for certain units; candidates must complete submission within 48 hours of contract signing

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Tdap vaccine or declination required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Titers and/or boosters for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum; instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2025-26 season

Competency and Orientation

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
  • Color blindness testing required
  • Abuse reporting competency required (covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation)
  • Orientation includes:
    • Pharmacology exam
    • Point of Care Testing
    • Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting
    • Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for ICU and related units
    • Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service
  • Proof of primary residence must match compact licensure documentation
  • Two professional references required
  • Complete application/resume required
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually

Work Environment

  • Rotating shifts with several weeks on one schedule before switching
