Registered Nurse - Pediatric Acute Care Float Pool
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float positions within the Missouri facility, expected to float to other similar pediatric units on-site within the same campus.
- Small chance of floating to Kansas; therefore, MO and KS nursing licenses are required or candidates must be willing to obtain KS license.
- Floating limited to similar specialties; no floating outside of acuity level.
- Pediatric Acute Care experience or Pediatric Med Surge experience considered.
- Day shift, 3x12 hour shifts.
- Local candidates are acceptable.
- Start date: January.
- Must be licensed to work in Missouri.
- Clean Nursys verification required.
- Preference for travelers with flexible schedules.
- Prior travel experience is required.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA only; RQI not accepted)
- BLS (AHA only; HeartCode accepted; RQI not accepted)
- PALS (AHA only; HeartCode accepted; required for all RNs except Case Managers)
- NRP (AHA 8th Edition Advanced Certification, as required)
- TNCC (required for all ER/Peds ER)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for RNs only (100% passing required)
- State License Verification (Primary Source Verification)
- NURSYS Verification (required for all RNs)
Required Experience
- Pediatric Acute Care or Pediatric Med Surge experience required.
- Prior travel experience is explicitly required.
Licensure
- Must have Missouri nursing license.
- Kansas nursing license required or candidate must be willing to obtain it.
Background Checks & Compliance
- Background check within 3 months of start, including all counties worked or lived in past 7 years, sex offender search, and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 6 months.
- Missouri Highway Patrol Check required.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam (initial and annual) attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility protocol.
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Proof of immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (3 vaccines, titer, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start.
- Current seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (flu declinations not accepted).
- Respiratory safety clearance or questionnaire as applicable.
Competencies & Testing
- Pediatric pharmacology competency exam required.
- Pediatric competency exam required.
- Color blind testing required for clinical candidates.
- Medication calculation/dosage test during orientation (100% passing required, three attempts allowed).
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service.
- Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
- Residency declaration form if working on a compact license.
- Facility-specific forms including health form, TB questionnaire, medication review packet, and time-sensitive documents must be completed.
- References: 2 supervisory references or performance evaluations verified within 1 year of start.
- Employment application/resume required.
- Pediatric skills checklist required when applicable.
- Performance evaluations and internal evaluations required if applicable based on tenure.
Schedule & Shift Details
- Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s).
- Flexible scheduling preferred.
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric RNs with prior travel experience who hold or are willing to obtain Missouri and Kansas licenses and are comfortable floating within pediatric acute care units.
