Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Santa Monica, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-timers (must have prior travel experience)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-Call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float to postpartum unit if needed
- Block Scheduling: Possible, at manager discretion
- Local Radius: 50 miles
Unit/Patient Population
- Antepartum rooms (4)
- Labor / High Risk (9)
- Triage (3)
- Postpartum (float as needed)
- Care includes fetal heart monitoring, high-risk pregnancy monitoring, C-sections, vaginal deliveries
- Postpartum couplet care (newborn and maternal) may be required if not enough Perinatal RNs
Certifications Required
- AWHONN Advanced OR NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- ACLS (American Heart Association certification required)
- BLS
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)
- Other certifications may be accepted based on clinical track verification
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital, beachside location
- Total staffed beds: 266
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub colors: Navy Blue for RNs; L&D/OR/Cath Lab scrubs provided
- Parking available (fees apply)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Drug screen: 10 panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TDAP (within 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Fit mask testing required (annual, onsite if no recent record)
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years
Training & Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
- Competency exams and skills checklists updated annually as applicable
- EFM training required for all L&D RNs (via certification or fetal heart rate monitoring assessment exam)
- Completion of Providence-specific WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
- Core modules for RN/LVN specialties
- Specialty-specific modules for L&D and related roles
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Epic training modules required (completion and transcript submission)
Licensing
- Valid California RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- NURSYS verification required
- Other state-specific attestations if applicable
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
- No first-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience required
- Floating to postpartum unit expected
- Local travel radius is 50 miles
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with a background in labor and delivery, high-risk pregnancy, and perinatal care who have prior travel contract experience and are comfortable floating within related units.
