Job Overview

• Position: Telemetry Float Pool Nurse (Travel Contract)
• Location: Chandler, AZ
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Specialty: Telemetry with float pool responsibilities including MedSurg and occasional ICU/Cardiac Tele
• Required Licenses/Certifications: Active Arizona RN license or compact license, BLS, ACLS
• Additional Certifications: NIHSS (for Neuro unit)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• Specialty Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years current telemetry nursing experience
• COVID-19 vaccine required or approved declination form

Key Requirements

• Must be able to titrate cardiac drips (Amio, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine to titrate down only)
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (2 attempts max)
• Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
• Floating required between multiple units and between two campuses (Chandler and Mercy Gilbert, approx. 9 miles apart)
• Ability to interpret EKGs is mandatory
• Must be comfortable floating mid-shift and between campuses (clock-out/in required when changing campuses)

• Telemetry Units (CV Tele B3A, Tele Neuro A3)
• Medical-Surgical Units (C5, B2C, B2D)
• Possible float to ICU, Cardiac Tele, Cath Lab, ER, observation floor, and other holding areas

Unit Details

CV Tele B3A (Cardiac Telemetry)

• Beds: 32
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
• Charge Nurse: Yes (no patient assignment)
• Tech Support: PCTs (1 per 16 patients)
• Telemetry: Centralized monitoring; RN must interpret EKGs
• Ventilators: No
• Hospitalist coverage during day; on-call at night
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Common Patients: Post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
• Age: 15 years and older
• Floating: To similar or lower acuity units

Tele Neuro A3 (Neurology Telemetry)

• Beds: 28
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
• Charge Nurse: Yes (no patient assignment)
• Tech Support: PCTs (1 per 16 patients)
• Telemetry: Centralized monitoring; RN must interpret EKGs
• Ventilators: No
• Hospitalist coverage during day; on-call at night
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Common Patients: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVA post TPA
• No ICP monitoring

Medical-Surgical C5

• Beds: 32 (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), including one major and one minor holiday
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
• Charge Nurse: Yes (no patient assignment)
• Tech Support: PCTs on days; 1 PCT or Task RN at night
• Telemetry: GE monitors with central monitoring tech
• Ventilators: Not applicable
• Hospitalist must be called as needed
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Floating: To MedSurg Tele B2C and B2D
• Common Patients: 80% Surgical (including ortho knee/hip program), 20% Oncology, urological, abdominal, Whipple, women's surgeries (no OB/GYN)
• Additional: Spectralink phones (call light attached to phone)

Medical-Surgical B2C

• Beds: 29
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), including one major and one minor holiday
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
• Charge Nurse: Yes (no patient assignment)
• Tech Support: PCTs on days; 1 PCT or SWAT RN at night
• Telemetry: GE monitors with central monitoring tech
• Ventilators: Not applicable
• Hospitalist must be called as needed
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Floating: To MedSurg Tele C5 and B2D
• Common Patients: General MedSurg patients requiring telemetry; Amio, Cardizem titration down only
• Additional: Spectralink phones; designated new grad training unit with clinical scholar mentorship for 4 weeks

Orientation

• Floor-specific orientation required:

  • Tele units: 2 days
  • MedSurg units: 2 shifts

Additional Notes

• Floating includes multiple units and campuses; notification given 1.5 hours prior to shift start
• Floating mid-shift possible; rare but possible to float between campuses during a shift
• Must clock out/in when changing campuses
• Charge nurses and clinical supervisors available for support
• No ventilator patients on Tele units
• No pediatric patients; minimum patient age 15 years
• Weekend and holiday shift requirements apply as noted per unit

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry nurses comfortable with floating across multiple units and campuses, able to titrate cardiac drips, interpret EKGs, and pass required competency exams prior to starting.
