Description

Registered Nurse (ER - Adult)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Work Details

  • Shift Hours: 7 PM - 7 AM
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
  • Floating: Required to float within skillset
  • Locals Accepted: No RNs within 75 miles accepted (radius rule)
  • Charting System: EPIC experience required
  • Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes

Licenses & Certifications Required

  • Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM certifications as required by unit
  • State License Verification and NURSYS Verification required within 30 days of start

Clinical Skills Required

  • IV therapy including blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, starting/maintaining IVs, IV vasopressors
  • CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator management
  • Care for CVA (stroke), neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Cardiac monitoring and management of dysrhythmias
  • Emergency care including adult/pediatric ED, gunshot wounds, orthopedic trauma
  • Isolation precautions, triage, pediatric spinal cord injury care

Unit Details

  • Patient Ratios: 1:5 (Adults, Geriatrics)
  • Patient Types: All emergency diagnoses
  • Special Equipment: Bair hugger, rapid infuser, safe patient handling equipment
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue and white combinations

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
  • Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ year ER experience recommended
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit Mask: Required within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB or Chest X-Ray: Required within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (titers or vaccines required)
  • Drug Testing: Required within 30 days of start (not annual)
  • Flu Vaccination or Declination: Required during flu season
  • Eye Exam: Snellen exam required within 1 year of start
  • COVID Vaccination: Preferred but not required

Background & Verification

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and run monthly
  • Education verification from primary source required
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation required if education obtained internationally
  • Work history verification required (at least 2 past employments)
  • References: Required for travel agency candidates (2 references within 3 years)

Additional Notes

  • Must submit scheduling requests upon application submission
  • Client may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract without penalty
  • Facility is a Magnet-recognized, Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center with a state-of-the-art emergency department and trauma suite
