MedSurg RN Travel Assignment - Phoenix, Arizona

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• 22 private rooms
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
• Unit is a new med/surg unit with ongoing development and team building
• Navy blue scrubs required

Patient Population

• Common diagnoses: post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, infection

Required Experience & Skills

• Must have recent Med/Surg experience (higher years of experience not explicitly stated, assume minimum recent experience)
• Preferred: charge nurse experience and telemetry experience (telemetry experience preferred due to potential floating)
• No first-time travelers accepted
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
• Must have Level 1 Trauma experience
• Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (pass/fail SIMs Lab on day 1 of orientation)
• Competency in sterile field maintenance is critical
• Must be able to perform lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational focus)

Certifications

• BLS required

Orientation & Training

• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Pass/fail exam on day 1 of orientation
• SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes (except ICU and ED have modified requirements)

Work Schedule & Requirements

• 12-hour day shifts
• 3 weekend days per pay period (Sat/Sun), same for travelers
• Holidays worked based on unit coverage
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required to other med/surg and telemetry units; travelers are first to float
• ICU RNs float with a 1:3 ratio

Unit Support & Environment

• No telemetry on this unit, but telemetry skills preferred for floating
• No PCTs; unit uses a resource RN in addition to charge RN
• Respiratory Therapist assigned to the unit; nurses not expected to manage respiratory equipment
• House Supervisor available 24/7; manager available Monday-Friday
• Must have natural hair color, no facial piercings, men must be clean-shaven for fit test
• Travel teams must have their own vehicles
• Must pass DYS exam prior to accepting assignment (2 attempts allowed)

This assignment is suited for experienced Med/Surg RNs with trauma experience who are comfortable floating and maintaining high competency in sterile techniques and common med/surg nursing skills.
