Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • License: Must have New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Previous Charge Experience: Required
  • Patient Ratio: Experience with 1:6 patient ratio required; must be able to handle 1:5 to 1:7 ratio on MedSurg unit
  • Float: Required
  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Unit & Patient Population

  • Complex care unit for Medicine, ortho overflow, and complex long-term patients
  • Patient diagnoses include ortho trauma, total joint replacements, complex medical cases

Skills & Competencies

  • Telemetry monitoring (MS/Tele)
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Pacemakers (temporary and permanent)
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
  • Phlebotomy and starting IVs
  • Heparin protocols
  • Surgical drains
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tank
  • Tracheostomy management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care and wound vac management
  • Proficiency in EPIC electronic health record system

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required by unit
  • Other certifications as required by unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma if applicable
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams as required
  • Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)

Health & Immunization Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Notes

  • Locals are not accepted; candidate must be more than 75 miles from the facility
  • Scrub color: navy on bottom, navy or white on top
  • Charting system: EPIC

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong telemetry and complex care skills, who are comfortable with charge nurse responsibilities and working in a fast-paced tertiary care environment.
