Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Night shift, every other weekend (EOW) plus 2 weekday shifts based on staffing needs
• Holiday Rotation: Required to work holidays in rotation (if 1 holiday in assignment, work it; if 2 holidays, work 1; if 3 holidays, work 2)
• Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Unit: 2 West – Medical Innovation Unit (32-bed medical/surgical unit focused on new technologies and innovative nursing practice)
• First-time travelers accepted: Yes
• Local candidates accepted: No (50-mile radius rule)
• Pending license accepted: No

Experience Requirements

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain units (ED/ER, ICU, PCU, CPU, OR, OB/L&D, Cath Lab, Endo, Anesthesia, PACU)
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification) – check unit-specific requirements

Background and Compliance

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Virginia State Police Background Check performed by facility
• Fingerprinting via Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check (effective 7/15/2025)
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (includes marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
• Physical Exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or chest X-ray if positive TB)
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed pending second dose
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed pending second dose
• Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination accepted
• Seasonal Flu Vaccination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31) unless approved medical or religious exemption

Competency and Documentation

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Core competency testing and HIPAA acknowledgment required for subcontractors
• 2 professional references required
• Current application/resume required
• Skills checklist updated annually

Additional Facility Requirements

• Review and initial multiple facility-specific policies and documents prior to start (e.g., Standards of Appearance, Social Media Policy, Confidentiality Agreement, Dress Code, Masking Requirements)
• Fit Mask testing (N95 preferred) required annually; onsite testing available
• Various facility-specific forms and consents must be completed prior to start

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience, working night shifts with every other weekend coverage and holiday rotation in a technologically advanced medical/surgical unit. BLS certification is required, with additional certifications depending on unit assignment. Prior travel experience is not required. Candidates must comply with extensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and facility-specific documentation. Local candidates outside a 50-mile radius are preferred.
