Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Neuro Stepdown Unit
Shift: Night shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments.
- Must have 18 months of recent Neuro Stepdown experience; travel experience in this area is acceptable.
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
- Required certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or American Red Cross
- NIHSS Stroke Certification (must be current and from approved providers)
- Other certifications:
- Pass/Fail ECG rhythm recognition and safeMedicate testing during orientation (passing score required)
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing required
- Certification renewals must be completed prior to start if expiring within 30 days.
Work Requirements
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- ECG rhythm recognition test and safeMedicate competency testing completed during orientation with acceptable scores required.
Onboarding & Compliance
- Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
- Background checks required prior to start and must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must be completed under nursing-specific code. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite. Candidates may start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing after 4/11/2025).
- Fit mask (N95) fit testing required within 12 months of start and updated annually. PAPRs approved on a case-by-case basis.
- Immunization and health requirements include:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
- Annual flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
Documentation & History
- Employment application must include 3 years of prior work history, with at least 2 years in acute care and similar specialty area.
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director). Co-worker references not accepted.
- Annual skills checklist and unit-specific competency exams required.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry a government-issued photo ID while on assignment.
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and training modules before clearance to start.
- Candidates returning to the facility with less than a 6-month gap may have some onboarding requirements waived.
- Facility uses Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked.
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Stepdown RNs with strong acute care backgrounds who meet Ohio licensure and certification requirements and are comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity environment.
