Description
Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Telemetry
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Med/Surg Telemetry
- Shift: Day/Night rotating shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
- Shifts may be variable to meet hospital operational needs.
- Facility will try to honor preferred shifts but reserves the right to rotate.
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12's)
- Holiday Work: Must work at least every other holiday.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments.
- Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (travel experience counts).
- Prior travel experience is required.
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
- Required certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Additional certifications may be required or preferred depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC).
Orientation & Testing
- ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate medication competency test required during orientation; passing scores mandatory.
- Pass/Fail testing (EKG/Medication) required for all bedside RNs except OR. Retakes available if needed.
Required Documents & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background checks including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- EPLS/GSA/SAM (monthly)
- HHS/OIG (monthly)
- Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months, updated annually
- Education verification required for all candidates.
- References: 2 references from employment within 1 year, from a manager or supervisor (co-worker references not accepted).
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area.
- Skills checklist and competency exams required annually.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titers with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
- Modules cannot be skipped; video must be watched before testing.
- Modules typically take multiple days to complete and are high priority.
- Candidates returning to the facility with less than 6 months gap may not need to repeat orientation or modules.
- Fingerprinting must be completed both through agency and facility processes.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared for variable shifts and holiday work.
- All certifications expiring within 30 days of start must be renewed prior to assignment.
- Candidates with gaps longer than 40 days between assignments may need to update physical, immunizations, and other health documents.
- Prior travel experience is explicitly required for this assignment.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a reputable healthcare system on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a structured 13-week travel contract. Candidates must meet strict licensure, certification, and health compliance standards and be flexible with shift rotations and holiday coverage.
