Job Opportunity: Tele RN - 3W IMCU Stepdown (Tele/Stepdown Unit)

Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: 3W Stepdown (28 private beds)
• Patient Acuity: Heavy cardiac cases including dysrhythmias, CVAs, and a mix of other conditions; patients downgraded from ICU
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 (1:6 if MedSurg acuity)
• EMR System: Cerner currently, transitioning to EPIC
• Floating: Possible float to ICU as helping hands
• Orientation: 2 shifts with a preceptor, floor-specific

Certifications & Experience Requirements

• Required Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
• Specialty Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ years in Tele/Stepdown or IMCU nursing (default to higher if conflicting info)

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips (central monitor station for entire hospital)
• Titrate drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin
• Manage Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen devices
• Insulin drips are set-rate only; no sedation drips
• Work closely with hospitalist (in-house 24/7) and intensivist (ICU coverage 7a-7p, on-call after hours)
• No dedicated IV team; ICU charge nurses or ICU Director assist with difficult IV sticks
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available in-house 24/7

Shift & Scheduling

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts

  • Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (days and nights alternating)
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday, integrated into permanent staff holiday rotation
• Staffing:

  • Nurse aides: 2 per shift during day and mid shifts; no CNA coverage after 11 PM
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs and jackets (if worn)

Additional Notes

• Nurses serve as central monitor techs for the hospital
• Charge nurse roles: Day charge nurse has no patient assignments; night charge nurse may have assignments
• Director is noted as very communicative and flexible with scheduling, including block scheduling options

This position is ideal for experienced Tele/Stepdown RNs comfortable with cardiac patient care, telemetry monitoring, and titrating drips in a fast-paced IMCU environment.
