Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift Hours: 7 PM - 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
• Charting System: EPIC experience required
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Locals Accepted: No RNs within 75 miles accepted (LPNs accepted locally)
• Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
• ACLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
• BLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
• NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)

Required Clinical Skills

• Telemetry and Stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC)
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia management and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• Oxygen administration (nasal cannula), non-invasive airway management
• Management of cardiac drips (no titration) and blood product administration
• Central and peripheral line care/management
• IV therapy/phlebotomy
• Isolation precautions

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
• Patient population: Adults and geriatrics
• Common diagnoses: Long-term pulmonary patients, ENT surgery, surgical procedures requiring stepdown care
• Scrub color: Navy blue and white combinations

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse
• Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume standard RN experience for PCU/stepdown care
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
• Education verification from primary source required
• Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
• Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
• Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
• Color blind testing required (one-time)
• Competency exams as required by specialty
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
• Photo for badge required (passport-style, solid background)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
• Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (titers or vaccines as specified)
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (not annual)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not annual)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Notes

• Must submit scheduling requests at time of application
• Client may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract without penalty
• References required for agency use only (2 references within 3 years)
• Employment application and work history verification required

This position is ideal for RNs experienced in telemetry and stepdown care who are comfortable working night shifts and floating within their skillset. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
