Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVOR)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Role: Circulating Nurse in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
  • Scrubbing: Not required
  • Charge Pay: Available (additional pay for charge responsibilities)
  • Call Requirements: Approximately 100 hours per 6 weeks; 1 call weekend per 6 weeks (Friday evening to Monday morning)
  • Float: Required to other OR specialties
  • Shifts:
    • 8 and 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
    • 3 twelve-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
    • 4 twelve-hour shifts (48 hours/week)
  • RTO Restrictions: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Locals Accepted: Yes (Indiana residents eligible for a rate adjustment)
  • Pending License: Accepted if Indiana, compact, or Indiana temporary license is in hand prior to start
  • First Timers: Accepted if they have Level I Trauma experience

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Years of Experience: 2 years in specialty (CVOR)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, Chemotherapy, NIH Stroke, EFM, and others may be required depending on cost center/unit
  • Special Requirements: Experience with heart & lung transplants, aortic dissections, ECMO; screening if no previous Level I Trauma experience

  • Facility Type: Short-Term Acute Care
  • Total Staffed Beds: Approximately 731 beds across units
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Free
  • Average Daily Census: 70-80 patients
  • Rooms: 24

Licensure & Compliance

  • Must have valid Indiana RN license, compact license, or Indiana temporary license before starting
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Perioperative/OR RNs are exempt from Indiana RN restrictions effective 11/30/2024

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7 years residence/work history
    • SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent)
  • References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles
  • Skills checklist within 12 months and annually
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation, compliance, and safety modules prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Must complete mandatory IU Health RRT modules if applicable (22 modules, deadline prior to orientation)
  • On-site fit testing available only as a last resort with limitations
  • Must complete facility-specific forms and orientation packets as a priority
  • Must be willing to float to other OR specialties as needed

This position is ideal for CVOR RNs with at least 2 years of experience, including trauma experience for first-time travelers, who are flexible with call and holiday work, and able to meet comprehensive compliance and certification requirements.
