Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Oakland, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a travel/contract assignment. Flexibility to float to other units or campuses within the hospital system is expected.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years of RN ICU experience
- At least 6 months of prior travel nursing experience required
Certifications
- Current California RN License
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Certification (verify position requirements)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on the unit (e.g., CCRN, PALS, TNCC, NRP) - verify by position
Work Schedule
- Weekend shifts: Every other weekend (EOW) and as needed by unit
- On-call: As needed
Floating
- May float to other units within scope of practice
- May float to other campuses (Ashby or Herrick) with approximately 1.5 hours notice before shift start
- Shuttle service provided for floating between campuses
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings
- Education verification required; BSN preferred but not mandatory
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
- Color blindness exam if applicable (in-person only)
Documentation and Orientation
- Must review and sign facility-specific documents including:
- Job description
- Standards of business conduct
- Confidentiality agreements
- HIPAA agreement
- Orientation booklet and post-test
- Code of conduct and vendor training (updated for 2024 and 2025 contracts)
- Complete facility-specific attestations and questionnaires (e.g., TB questionnaire, conditional offer of employment)
Additional Notes
- Must provide full 7 years of work history with no gaps in employment
- Two professional references required (Aya requirement, not facility)
- Prior travel experience explicitly required (minimum 6 months travel experience)
- Flexibility and adaptability to floating and on-call assignments are essential
This position is ideal for ICU RNs with solid critical care experience and prior travel nursing assignments who are comfortable working in a dynamic hospital environment with floating responsibilities.
