Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Unit: MS/Tele (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry)
- Preferred Units: PCU, DOU, IMC, Stepdown
- Patient Diagnoses: Acute respiratory failure, CHF, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, sepsis, pulmonary fibrosis, ILD
- Special Procedures/Unit Details:
- Manage Amiodarone drip
- Rapid response team activation
- Day/Evening nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
- Night nurse-to-patient ratio: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
- PCTs available for vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs
- In-house phlebotomy team for peripheral lab draws; nursing responsible for PICC and central lines
Required Skills & Competencies
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Feeding tube care and management
- Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
- Blood product administration
- Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
- Starting IVs
- Heparin protocols
- Management of cardiac drips (no titration)
- PCA management
- Substance withdrawal care
- Surgical drains care
- Care of ventilated patients
- Chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy management
- Isolation precautions
- Wound care and wound vac management
Special Equipment: BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow, chronic ventilators, trach, chest tubes
Experience Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year recent experience in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- First Time Travelers: Accepted
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Every other weekend required
- Call required as needed
- Float required (within scope of practice)
- Open to accommodating block schedule (not guaranteed)
- No local candidates accepted within 75 miles radius
- Nurse-to-patient ratios as noted above
Certifications & Licensure
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
- State RN license required (no pending license accepted)
- EPIC experience preferred
Orientation
- 4 hours of modules prior to start
- 4-hour classroom orientation with educator
- Remaining orientation during 12-hour shift on unit
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
- Education verification from primary source required
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required immunizations or titers: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
- References (2 within 3 years) required for travel agency candidates
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Work history verification required
Additional Notes
- Scrubs: Navy blue or white
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Keep close to 1 week
- No locals accepted within 75 miles radius
