Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Unit: MS/Telemetry
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable
    • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
  • Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac disease, stroke, infection, pain, pulmonary embolism (PE)
  • Work Settings & Skills Required:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
    • Peripheral line care/management, including PICC and central lines
    • Non-invasive airway management
    • Oxygen delivery via nasal cannula, face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Isolation precautions
  • Special Equipment: Bladder scanners, telemetry monitors, EKG machines, Lifepacks
  • Float Requirements: MS, Emergency Department, ICU (stable patients), acute brain injury (stable patients)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
    • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • Support Staff: PCTs available for vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, ADLs; in-house phlebotomy team for peripheral lab draws
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required; block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed
  • Electronic Medical Record: EPIC preferred
  • Scrubs: Navy blue/white

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Specialty Experience Required: 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted

Licensing & Compliance

  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Keep RTO close to 1 week
  • Locals Accepted: No locals within 75 miles

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification from primary source (transcripts/diplomas if no verification on file)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally (CGFNS, WES, or EEE acceptable)
  • References: 2 references within 3 years (for Aya candidates)
  • Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 past employments verified)
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations

Health & Safety Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (Halyard duckbill 1870+1860 Regular or 1860 Small)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire annually
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (Surface AB positive titer or completed series)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Notes

  • Float assignments may include MS, ED, ICU, and acute brain injury units with stable patients
  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome
  • No local candidates within 75 miles accepted for this assignment

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized MS/Telemetry unit with a supportive team and access to advanced equipment in a hospital setting. The role requires strong clinical skills in cardiac and neurological patient care, with flexibility for floating to other units as needed.
