Job Opportunity: OR Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Boise, Idaho
Specialty: Surgical Services - OR RN


Contract Details

  • Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts (9 AM - 9 PM)
  • Call Requirements:
    • Weeknight call: Typically 4 hours after scheduled shift; may cover up to 12 hours if needed (1-2 times per contract)
    • Weekend call: 12-hour in-house day shift, typically once per month
    • Holiday call: 12-hour in-house day shift, typically once per month
    • Call response time: 30 minutes
  • Scheduling: No block scheduling; scheduled based on department needs
  • Orientation: Approximately 1 week of general and unit-specific orientation

Unit Information

  • Department: Surgical Services, OR (Operating Room)
  • Number of Suites: 17
  • Average Cases per Day: 65
  • Common Cases:
    • Pediatric (all specialties and trauma)
    • Adult cases including General Surgery, DaVinci robotic surgery, Neurosurgery (spines and craniotomies), Pediatric scoliosis
    • Orthopedics (total joints, trauma, sports medicine, spica casts for pediatrics)
    • Urology (complex cases including DaVinci, kidney, prostate, cystoscopy)
    • Oncology (attached Oncology center)
    • ENT, GYN (including c-sections for accreta)
    • Bariatrics (robotic or laparoscopic Roux-en-Y, sleeves, gastric bypass)

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience
  • Preferred: 1-2 prior travel assignments (travel experience preferred but not explicitly required)
  • Certifications: BLS required
  • Skills: Broad experience across multiple surgical specialties preferred; candidates should be able to identify their top 2 strengths/areas of expertise
  • Scrubbing: Not required for RNs
  • Floating: Rarely required; may float to nearby surgery centers or other local hospitals; experience with CVOR (robotic thoracic surgery) is a plus for floating opportunities

Work Environment

  • Support: Charge nurse available 24/7 on each shift
  • OR Techs: Present
  • EMR System: EPIC
  • Dress Code: Hospital provides grey scrubs

  • This is an urgent backfill position with a start ASAP requirement
  • Call shifts are primarily volunteer-based, with mandatory coverage as needed
  • Floating is minimal and limited to nearby locations
  • Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address
