Job Description
- Position: RN Case Manager in the Emergency Department (ED)
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume standard RN experience for case management roles (typically 2+ years).
Required Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (required for certain units)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (depending on unit)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (if applicable)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) (for Labor & Delivery RNs)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card (required for ER and Behavioral Health RNs)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except certain specialties)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Unit-Specific Competency Exams (including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency for Telemetry RNs)
- Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogens Exam (minimum 80% passing score)
- Continuing Education Units (CEUs) within last 24 months (minimum 1 contact hour, excluding BLS)
- Pass/Fail Testing: Medication/Calculation Exam and Arrhythmia Recognition Assessment (EKG exam) with 80% passing score for certain units (ER, ICU, Telemetry, etc.)
Licensure & Documentation Requirements
- Valid California RN License (hard copy may be required)
- Proof of education and transcripts as applicable
- Background check within 1 year (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, SS trace, federal)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Mask Fit Testing (N95) within 1 year, renewed annually
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap or Pertussis titer
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines after age 1
- Hepatitis B series or declination (titer not accepted)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines after age 1
- Hepatitis C titer strongly preferred; declination accepted with reason
- Seasonal Flu vaccination required by December 5 (declination accepted with masking requirements)
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation for current season or declination with masking requirements
Experience & References
- 2 professional references within 1 year of start date in current specialty, from leadership roles (e.g., Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse)
- Verification of employment for past 3 years required
- Annual performance evaluation required if working with the agency for 1 year or more

- Signed HIPAA acknowledgment
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety modules (mostly onsite)
- Scrub color requirements: Navy Blue for RNs/LVNs
- Facility-specific job description must be signed prior to start
- Various facility-specific acknowledgments and policy reviews (e.g., Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Policy, Epidural Pain Policy, Skin Care Standard of Care)
