Description
Job Opportunity: Telemetry Nurse (RN)
Location: Merced, California
Specialty: Telemetry (4th Floor)
Job Details
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit: Telemetry, 4th Floor
- Number of Beds: 34
- Shift Times: 7 AM and 7 PM (12-hour shifts)
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends every 4 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: Work one major and two minor holidays (same as core staff)
- Floating: Med Surg unit; travelers float first
- Charge Nurse: Yes, each shift (typically does not take patients)
- Nurse Aides: Available but no fixed ratios; may not always have aides, so primary nursing expected at times
- Orientation:
- 2 days if Cerner EMR experience
- 3 days if no Cerner experience
- EMR System: Cerner preferred
- Patient Monitoring:
- Telemetry monitored on unit and remotely by monitor techs
- Nurses must read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Ventilation: Bi-Pap available
- Support Services:
- Hospitalist in-house 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy 24/7
- Pharmacy 24/7
- No call required
- Typical Patient Diagnoses:
- Post CVA (stroke) - Stroke certified unit
- Rule out CHF
- Respiratory failure
- Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension
- Non-titrating drips; titrate heparin only (no insulin drips)
- Post-operative patients
- Some post cardiac cath and PCI patients (travelers not assigned cath/PCI patients)
Required Qualifications
- License: Active California RN license
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Telemetry nursing experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Additional Information
- High acuity telemetry with more PCU/stepdown level patients
- Level II facility
- Must prioritize travel assignment schedule; no second job allowed
- Cannot be permanent or per diem at another CommonSpirit facility within the past 12 months
- 50-mile radius rule applies (no local rates)
- Standby response time: 30 minutes; standby cancellations count toward cancellation policy
- Scrub color: Navy
- No block or set scheduling accommodations
- Extra shifts may be available occasionally
