Description
Job Opportunity: RN - Emergency Department
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Specialty
- Registered Nurse (RN) in Emergency Department
- Required years of experience: 2 years in nursing, with at least 1 year in ER setting
- Must have Level 1 ED Charge Nurse experience
Unit & Work Environment
- Emergency Department in a Level 2 trauma center and comprehensive stroke center
- High volume ED with over 100,000 visits annually
- Patient ratios typically 4:1 (medical), up to 7:1 on ED behavioral holds
- Unit staffing includes techs (cardiac monitoring, triage), unit clerks (days and nights)
- Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
- Documentation system: Cerner
- Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
- Floating: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
- Known for teamwork and welcoming personalities
- Serves a multicultural community with over 120 languages spoken in the area
Certifications Required (must be current before start date)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) within 90 days of hire
Skills & Qualifications
- 2 years’ experience in a Level 2 trauma center or similar high-acuity setting preferred
- Previous experience with HCA Healthcare preferred
- Teamwork mentality with ability to coach and provide real-time feedback
- Flexibility to work in all areas of the ED
- Advanced skills related to emergency nursing procedures

- Dress code: Navy scrubs required
- Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates
- Attendance policy provided on day 1
