Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Adult)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role: Registered Nurse in Adult Emergency Room
  • Shift: Day/Night rotation (7 AM - 7 PM / 7 PM - 7 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
  • Locals: RNs within 75 miles are not accepted (radius rule)
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM certifications as required by unit
  • State License Verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start

Required Clinical Skills

  • IV therapy including blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, starting/maintaining IVs, IV vasopressors
  • CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator management
  • Care for CVA (stroke), neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management
  • Emergency care including adult/pediatric ED, gunshot wounds, orthopedic trauma
  • Isolation precautions, triage, pediatric spinal cord injury care

Unit Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
  • Patient population: Adults and geriatrics with all emergency diagnoses
  • Special equipment used: Bair hugger, rapid infuser, safe patient handling equipment
  • Floating: Required within skillset
  • Uniform: Navy blue and white scrub colors

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Emergency Room)
  • Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ year experience in ER nursing recommended
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Scheduling & Policies

  • Call-off policy: Up to three shifts may be canceled by client during a 13-week contract without charge
  • Requests for time off or special scheduling must be submitted upon application

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following within 5 days of contract signing:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including felony checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Employment verification of at least 2 past employments
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates
  • State-specific checks including sex offender registry and Medicaid exclusion list

Additional Notes

  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Must submit all required documentation and complete compliance modules prior to start
  • Facility is Magnet-recognized and an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • Emergency department is a 24/7 state-of-the-art facility with trauma and pediatric units
