Description
Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Stepdown)
Location: San Francisco, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care in an acute patient setting.
- Deliver holistic and individualized care considering psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
- Educate patients and families and manage transitions of care.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers.
- Float to all CPMC campuses as needed based on census.
- Shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (0700-1930), including weekend rotation. Flexibility to float mid-shift required.
Required Qualifications
- California RN license.
- BLS (AHA) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown nursing experience.
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (AHA or ARC) recommended; verify by position.
- BLS (AHA or ARC) required.
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required.
- Other certifications may be position-dependent (e.g., CCRN, TNCC, PALS, NRP).
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- EKG/Dysrhythmia competency may be required depending on unit.
- ICU RNs may be required to take an onsite EKG exam after start.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
- Education verification required; BSN preferred but not mandatory.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
- TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or 2 PPDs as per protocol; annual renewal required.
- Immunizations: Must meet Sutter Health requirements for Tdap, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, and seasonal flu vaccination or approved declination.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually; accommodations considered for religious exemptions or failed tests.
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and annually.
Documentation & Other Requirements
- Full 7 years of work history with no gaps in employment over 30 days; verification required.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually.
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- TB questionnaire completed and signed by candidate and healthcare provider within 90 days of start.
- Religious accommodation forms required if applicable for vaccine or PAPR exemptions.
