Description
Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
Seeking an Emergency Room Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience. First-time travelers are accepted. The role involves managing a mixed adult and pediatric emergency department with patient ratios of 1:5 and shared acuity levels. Float is required when census warrants. Schedule includes every other weekend shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 1 year as an ER Registered Nurse
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except birthing units & OR)
- Licensure: Valid RN license for New York (Primary Source Verification required within 30 days of start)
- Other Required Skills:
- General Emergency Department care (combined adult and pediatric)
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- Phlebotomy and IV skills (starting IVs, continuous IV paralytics, sedation)
- Administration of emergency medications, IV vasopressors, procedural sedation
- Stroke (CVA) care
- Isolation precautions
- Charting System: Epic (preferred)
Schedule & Work Environment
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients with mixed/shared acuity
- Float to other units as needed based on census
- Every other weekend required
- Block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed
- Locals within 75 miles are not accepted
Health & Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract, including but not limited to:
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Fit mask testing (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
- Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Verification
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) required within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
- Education verification from primary source required
- Employment verification of at least 2 past employments required
- References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates
Additional Notes
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
- Color blind testing required (not annually)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as required
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
- Float required when census warrants
