Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Telemetry/Stepdown (3W IMCU)
Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit: 3W Stepdown (Intermediate Care Unit - Telemetry)
- Beds: 28 private beds
- Patient Acuity: Heavy cardiac focus including dysrhythmias, CVAs, and patients downgraded from ICU
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 (1:6 if MedSurg acuity)
- EMR System: Cerner currently, transitioning to EPIC
- Telemetry Monitors: Yes, RNs must read and interpret strips; serve as central monitor station for entire hospital
Shift Information
- RN Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM; 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- CNA Shifts: 8-hour shifts (6:30 AM - 3:00 PM; 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Days on Saturday/Sunday, Nights on Friday/Saturday/Sunday)
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday, integrated into permanent staff holiday rotation
- Floating: May float to ICU as needed
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - Required
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - Required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Ability to titrate drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin (Insulin only at set rate; no sedation drips)
- Experience with Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen devices
- Must be able to work with hospitalist and intensivist teams; hospitalist on-site 24/7, intensivist coverage 7 days/week (7 AM - 7 PM) with on-call after hours
Orientation & Support
- Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts with a preceptor
- No dedicated IV team; ICU charge nurses or ICU Director assist with difficult IV sticks
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available in-house 24/7
- Charge Nurse: Day shift charge nurse has no patient assignments; night charge nurse may have assignments
- Nurse Aides: 2 per shift during day and mid shifts; no CNA coverage after 11 PM
Work Environment & Dress Code
- Scrub Color: Navy blue (jackets must also be navy blue if worn)
- The Director is noted for excellent communication and flexibility, including block scheduling options
Required Experience & Licensure
- Specialty: Telemetry/Stepdown RN
