Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Oakland, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position. The role involves working in the ICU/CPU with potential floating to other units or campuses within the hospital system as needed.
Required Qualifications
- License: Valid California RN License
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Experience:
- Minimum 3+ years of RN ICU experience (highest required)
- At least 6 months of prior travel nursing experience required
- Additional Requirements:
- Flexibility to float to other units or campuses with approximately 1.5 hours notice
- Weekend availability every other weekend (EOW) and as needed
- On-call availability as needed
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings
- Education verification (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or failed tests)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required (Aya requirement)
- Complete full 7 years of work history with no gaps in employment
Job Duties and Expectations
- Provide critical care nursing in ICU/CPU settings
- May float to other units or campuses within scope of practice depending on census and need
- Must be flexible and responsive to floating requests with short notice
- Participate in on-call rotations as needed
Orientation and Facility Specific Requirements
- Must review and sign facility-specific documents including:
- Job description
- Standards of business conduct
- Confidentiality agreements
- HIPAA agreement
- Regulatory orientation
- Code of conduct and vendor training (updated for 2024 and 2025)
- Complete facility-required competency exams and skills checklists annually
- Complete TB questionnaire within 90 days of start and annually thereafter
- Complete Epic Questionnaire (RN only) starting 11/3/2025
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract ICU RN position in California requiring a minimum of 3 years ICU experience and 6 months prior travel nursing experience. Candidates must hold a valid CA RN license and current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke certifications. Flexibility to float and weekend/on-call availability are required. Extensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and facility-specific compliance documents must be completed prior to start.
