Job Opportunity: RN - PICU - Travel
Location: Moreno Valley, California
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing Travel
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Description
- Assess patients on admission and reassess as needed, at least every shift, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs
- Establish and update individualized plans of care based on comprehensive data
- Administer oral, topical, and parenteral medications following the 7 rights
- Assess and document medication effectiveness and any adverse effects
- Perform treatments and procedures adhering to nursing best practices, hospital policies, sterile technique, standard precautions, and patient privacy
- Document patient responses, pain management, discharge planning, education, and progress accurately and legibly
- Educate patients and families based on assessed needs
- Interpret diagnostic data and intervene appropriately
- Communicate changes in patient condition promptly using SBAR communication during handoffs
- Respect patient rights including confidentiality, safety, and participation in care planning
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning
- Manage patients in restraints per policy and understand application criteria
- Follow National Patient Safety Goals and hospital policies including use of two patient identifiers
- Understand disaster plans and roles, including activation of Rapid Response Team
- Complete orientation to Life Safety Standards (Code Blue, Code Pink, Code Red, Haz Mat, Oxygen shut off)
- Follow infection control policies and blood transfusion protocols
- Understand chain of command and access appropriately
- Practice proper hand hygiene before and after patient contact
- Demonstrate knowledge of pediatric medications, dose calculations, and high-alert medication policies
- Recognize and intervene in basic cardiac dysrhythmias
- Use bedside monitoring equipment properly, including arterial line setup, calibration, waveform interpretation, and discontinuation
- Be familiar with legal issues related to minors (consents, CPS, court custody)
- Accurately assess and intervene for critically ill pediatric patients
- Communicate effectively with parents and children
- Document appropriately on PICU flow sheets, care plans, medication administration records, and progress notes
- Manage ventilator-dependent patients and understand specialty bed use
- Use Alaris pump and follow narcotics and Pyxis access policies
Required Qualifications
- California RN License
- BLS Certification
- Cardiac Monitoring Experience
- PICU Experience (minimum 1 year)
