Job Opportunity: RN - PICU - Travel

Job Description

• Assess patients on admission and reassess as needed, at least every shift, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs
• Establish and update individualized plans of care based on comprehensive data
• Administer oral, topical, and parenteral medications following the 7 rights
• Assess and document medication effectiveness and any adverse effects
• Perform treatments and procedures adhering to nursing best practices, hospital policies, sterile technique, standard precautions, and patient privacy
• Document patient responses, pain management, discharge planning, education, and progress accurately and legibly
• Educate patients and families based on assessed needs
• Interpret diagnostic data and intervene appropriately
• Communicate changes in patient condition promptly using SBAR communication during handoffs
• Respect patient rights including confidentiality, safety, and participation in care planning
• Participate in multidisciplinary care planning
• Manage patients in restraints per policy and understand application criteria
• Follow National Patient Safety Goals and hospital policies including use of two patient identifiers
• Understand disaster plans and roles, including activation of Rapid Response Team
• Complete orientation to Life Safety Standards (Code Blue, Code Pink, Code Red, Haz Mat, Oxygen shut off)
• Follow infection control policies and blood transfusion protocols
• Understand chain of command and access appropriately
• Practice proper hand hygiene before and after patient contact
• Demonstrate knowledge of pediatric medications, dose calculations, and high-alert medication policies
• Recognize and intervene in basic cardiac dysrhythmias
• Use bedside monitoring equipment properly, including arterial line setup, calibration, waveform interpretation, and discontinuation
• Be familiar with legal issues related to minors (consents, CPS, court custody)
• Accurately assess and intervene for critically ill pediatric patients
• Communicate effectively with parents and children
• Document appropriately on PICU flow sheets, care plans, medication administration records, and progress notes
• Manage ventilator-dependent patients and understand specialty bed use
• Use Alaris pump and follow narcotics and Pyxis access policies

Required Qualifications

• California RN License
• BLS Certification
• Cardiac Monitoring Experience
• PICU Experience (minimum 1 year)
