Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Arlington, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Call: 3-4 call shifts every 6 weeks, 8 hours each
  • Start Date: ASAP (dependent on EPIC experience/training schedule)

Required Qualifications

  • Active Virginia or Compact RN License at time of submission
  • BLS certification
  • Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience (Level II Trauma center experience preferred)
  • Experience with trauma, neuro, ortho spine, general surgery, robotics preferred
  • EPIC OP TIME (OR) experience or willingness to complete EPIC training

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not explicitly required

Certifications & Training

  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless approved medical or religious exemption
  • Must complete EPIC training modules prior to start (approx. 5-8 hours, 61 modules)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (confirm with program management)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Pre-employment physical exam within 1 year, including physical ability assessment
  • Fit mask test within last 12 months (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination)
    • Varicella
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable to unit)
  • Negative 11-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption documentation

Background & Documentation

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Education verification
  • Employment application/resume
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Work history verification (7 years)
  • Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgements required prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, code of ethics, dress code, parking, safety policies)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
  • Must wear both agency and facility badges at all times
  • Facility runs its own background check through HireRight in addition to agency background check
  • EPIC training is mandatory and must be completed before starting assignment
  • Flu vaccine exemptions require documentation and agency/facility approval

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs looking for a 13-week travel contract in a Level II Trauma center environment with exposure to a variety of surgical specialties.
