Job Opportunity: RN - Cardiovascular Surgery (Travel)
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel assignment in the Cardiovascular Surgery unit. The unit is part of a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with a focus on cardiovascular preoperative care.
Unit Details
- Unit: Cardiovascular PreOp (CV PreOp)
- Number of Beds: 4
- Patient Ratios: 1:1
- Staffing: RNs supported by CNC, secretary, manager, and shared support with CVOR
- Equipment: GE Carescape Monitoring, Fuji ultrasound
- Documentation System: Cerner
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM
- On Call: Required to stay late 1-2 times per week
- Floating: Within scope of practice and experience
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required for North Carolina
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty (Cardiovascular Surgery or critical care)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (No exceptions)
Skills and Competencies
- Critical care experience is a must; PreOp experience is a plus
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity patient area
- Excellent documentation skills, including BCMA (Bar Code Medication Administration)
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills with interdepartmental teams
- Advanced skills including:
- Large-bore IV starts
- Chin-to-toe hair removal
- Medication administration
- Skin assessment
- Assisting with arterial line, central line, and epidural placement
- Transporting patients to OR and assisting with induction/intubation, positioning, and skin prep

- Exposure to advanced cardiovascular surgical procedures and technology
This position is ideal for experienced cardiovascular surgery RNs who have prior travel experience and are looking for a challenging and rewarding travel assignment in a recognized healthcare facility.
