Description

Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Rochester, New York
Start Date: March 3, 2026
Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5 to 1:7
  • Unit Size: 26 beds
  • Patient Population: Post PCI, pacemakers, AICDs, post MI, cardiac pharmacological interventions
  • Charting System: EPIC required
  • Locals accepted only if residing more than 75 miles away
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Qualifications

  • License: Must have a valid New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in specialty (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required as per unit description
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy: Peripheral line care and management
  • Respiratory care: Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management
  • Adherence to isolation precautions

Facility & Work Environment

  • Type: Tertiary Care Hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 528
  • Scrub Color: Navy and white combinations allowed

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • Various certifications and competencies as required by unit and profession (e.g., medication/pharmacology competency exam, color blindness testing)
  • Health requirements to be completed within 5 days of contract signing, including but not limited to:
    • Physical exam (within 1 year)
    • Fit mask test (annual)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
    • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • Drug screening within 30 days of start
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
    • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
  • References and employment verification required for travel agency compliance
  • State-specific requirements such as NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable), criminal background fingerprinting, sex offender registry check, and Medicaid exclusion list checks

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract.
  • Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required.
  • Candidates will receive facility-specific modules and must complete pre-employment compliance attestations.

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of MS/Telemetry experience, holding a current New York RN license, who is comfortable working day shifts in a tertiary care setting with cardiac patient populations. Prior travel experience is not required.
