    Travel ICU Nurse - Bakersfield, California

    Job Description

    A hospital in California is seeking an experienced ICU nurse for a travel contract. The ICU unit has 20 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2. The unit uses Cerner EMR and has 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support. Nurses may be floated to ER, Telemetry, or Med Surg units and may work across two campuses.

    Work Schedule & Environment

    • Shifts: 7 AM and 7 PM
    • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks
    • Holidays: One major and two minor holidays at Christmas (eves considered minor)
    • Orientation: Minimum 2 shifts on floor plus 1 shift for Cerner EMR
    • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
    • Call: Possible if staffing is reduced
    • Floating: May float to sister facility and other units; night shift requires minimum 2 years ICU experience
    • Common Patient Diagnoses: Neuro, radical cancer surgeries, abdominal cases, urology, CVA, TPA, respiratory failure, sepsis, oncology patients
    • Ventilator Management: Respiratory therapists manage vents; nurses troubleshoot

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid RN license in California
    • Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience, including ICU experience within the last year
    • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
    • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications

    Additional Notes

    • Night shift nurses must have at least 2 years ICU experience for both campuses
    • Nurses will primarily work both campuses but mid-shift floating is rare
    • Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage is not 24/7 on-site but available on call starting 24/7 coverage
