Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Nursing Resource Team

Location: Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Employment Type: Contract Clinician

Job Overview

Join the Nursing Resource Team (NRT), a hospital-wide float department supporting multiple units including ER, ICU, PCU, Med Surg, and Behavioral Health (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery). This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and strong time management skills to provide nursing care across various patient populations and care areas.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care across ER, ICU, PCU, Med Surg, and Behavioral Health units as part of a float team.
  • Evaluate, plan, implement, and document nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
  • Perform patient tests and administer medications within RN scope of practice.
  • Promote patient independence through education on conditions, medications, and self-care.
  • Collaborate with nursing and inter-professional teams to deliver coordinated, culturally competent care.
  • Use evidence-based practice and data to improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Meet age-specific needs of assigned units.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in all of the following areas (can be concurrent):
    • Emergency Room (ER)
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) (experience must be within the last 2 years)
    • Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
    • Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
    • Behavioral Health/Psych (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery)
  • Experience with cardiac drips and non-invasive ventilation.
  • Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program (BSN highly preferred).
  • Current State of Idaho (or compact) RN license.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA)
    • ACLS (AHA)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • Restraint C (training provided during orientation)
    • MOAB 8-hour class (training provided during orientation)
  • Department of Health & Welfare Background Fingerprinting required (due to Behavioral Health floating).

Schedule & Shift Details

  • 12-hour shifts: 0700-1930 or 1900-0730.
  • Schedule varies based on unit needs.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • Float assignments communicated 2 hours prior to shift; may float mid-shift if needed.

Unit Information

  • Bed size varies by unit: 21-35 beds.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • ICU: 1:1-2
    • Med/Surg & ED boarded Med/Surg: 1:5-6
    • PCU: 1:3-4
    • Behavioral Health (Adult/Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery): 1:5-6 (days), 1:10 (overnights)

Dress Code

  • Navy blue scrubs.

Additional Notes

  • Majority of time likely spent in Med Surg and Behavioral Health units, but must be willing and able to float to ER and ICU.
  • Orientation includes training on restraints, MOAB, boundaries, and use of lifts.

Prior Travel Experience
