Job Opportunity: RN - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit: 5 West Medicine (5W MEDICINE 610)
- Number of Beds: 36
- Number of Staff: 50+
- Day Shift Staffing: 1 charge nurse, 8 RNs, 3 CNAs, 1 HUC, 1-2 sitters
- Day Shift RN Ratio: 1:5-6
- Night Shift Staffing: 1 charge nurse, 7 RNs, 3 CNAs, 0.5 HUC, 1-2 sitters
- Night Shift RN Ratio: 1:6-7
- Equipment: Medical remote telemetry monitoring, Cerner Patient Observation (CPO), VC150’s in every patient room, workstations on wheels, Tap and Go computer access
- EMR System: Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in Stepdown, Intermediate Care, Surgical ICU Stepdown, and Direct Observation Unit (DOU)
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Medical Telemetry

- BSN degree
- Leadership experience
- Charge Nurse experience
Job Details
- Typical Procedures: Preparation of patients for Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology (IR), and Operating Room (OR)
- Work Environment: Fast-paced, team-oriented, compassionate, and hard-working culture
- Floating Areas: Med-Surg units 3W, 5W, K8 (sister units)
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs (top and bottom), white top with navy blue bottom, or all white
Scheduling
- Must sign up for 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday, Saturday, Sunday count as weekend shifts on night shift)
Summary
This travel RN position in Asheville, NC offers the opportunity to work in a well-staffed Progressive Care Unit with advanced telemetry monitoring and a supportive team environment. Candidates must have at least 2 years of relevant RN experience, current RN licensure, and required certifications including BLS, ACLS, and NIH.
