Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the 9th Floor Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializing in Medical-Surgical Telemetry. The role involves assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care in an acute patient setting. The nurse will provide holistic, individualized care, collaborate with healthcare teams, and ensure continuity of care.
Work Schedule & Floating
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On Call: As needed
- Floating: May float to other units within scope of practice, including Rehab Units at other campuses. Flexibility required with short notice (approx. 1.5 hours prior to shift start). Shuttle service provided for floating between campuses.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient and family assessments (physiological, spiritual, emotional).
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team to coordinate patient-centric care plans.
- Streamline patient workflow and improve outcomes through teamwork.
- Communicate care plans effectively during shift changes and between departments.
- Provide competent, compassionate, and cost-effective care following evidence-based practices and hospital policies.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Delegate tasks appropriately within legal scope and team capabilities.
- Educate patients and families using teach-back methods to ensure understanding.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with all regulations.
- Stay current with advancements and best practices in acute care nursing.
- Monitor and evaluate patient care interventions and outcomes; adjust plans as needed.
- Participate in safety events and report concerns.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to new staff and students.
- May orient new nursing and patient care support staff.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical Telemetry experience within the last year
- Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including aliases, county searches, sex offender, and education verification
- FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
- Drug screening (9-panel, excluding marijuana due to CA law) within 6 months of start
- Employment history verification for up to 7 years with no gaps over 30 days
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (Aya requirement)
- Full 7 years of work history documented in application
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
- Immunizations and/or titers for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- TB screening (negative test within 90 days, renewed annually)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months
- Color blindness exam if applicable (in-person, by licensed provider)
- Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
Competency & Skills Verification
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for Tele units
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually
