Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro ICU
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Specialty: Neuro ICU
Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks minimum
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
- Weekend/Holiday: 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks; holidays based on unit coverage
- Floating: Required to float between all ICU floors and Telemetry units; tele patient load 4:1 when floated
Unit & Facility Information
- Unit Size: 32 beds
- Hospital Size: Large (450+ beds)
- Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma center
- EMR System: Cerner
- Patient Population: Critical care patients with neurological diagnoses including craniotomies, brain tumor removals, ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2 in Neuro ICU; 4:1 on Tele units when floated
- Charge Nurse: Yes, charge nurse role does not take patients
- Monitoring Equipment: Phillips monitors, ventilators available
- Support Services: Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: RN license appropriate for Arizona
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds)
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- 3-6 months prior travel experience required for Neuro ICU
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
- Skills:
- Strong neurological assessment skills
- Experience with ICP (Intracranial Pressure) monitoring
- EVD (External Ventricular Drain) experience required
- Other Requirements:
- Prior travel experience required (3-6 months)
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam must be passed within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- SIMs Lab competency required for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (pass/fail)
- Must comply with facility policies: no facial piercings, natural hair colors only, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Must have own vehicle for travel teams
- Candidates cannot hold concurrent contracts with this employer
- Must have been off permanent staff at this system for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
Orientation & Onboarding
- Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holiday weeks)
- Onboarding paperwork must be completed by 1pm CST Wednesday before start date; incomplete files will delay start
- Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts on Neuro ICU floor

- This is a teaching hospital; nurses may have nursing students assigned
- Floating includes all ICU and Telemetry units
- Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation (study guide provided)
- Must be competent maintaining sterile field and performing Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Facility enforces strict professional appearance and conduct policies
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU RNs with strong critical care and neurological skills, prior travel experience, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, teaching hospital environment.
