Job Opportunity: IMC - RN PACU
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Clinical - Nursing - DPC
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing nursing care to patients in the immediate post-anesthesia period. The RN assesses patients systematically, develops individualized care plans, and implements care to achieve optimal patient outcomes as patients transition through the peri-anesthesia continuum. Care is provided to patients ranging from pediatric through geriatric.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to immediate post-anesthesia and post-procedure patients.
- Perform initial and ongoing physical assessments upon admission to PACU.
- Compare assessment data to previous patient condition and established norms.
- Develop individualized plans of care to assist patients in returning to safe physiological levels after anesthesia.
- Monitor surgical sites, drains, dressings, tubes, catheters, and intravenous lines.
- Monitor and intervene to maintain respiratory and circulatory function.
- Utilize critical thinking for patient assessment and interventions.
- Provide psychosocial support and health teaching to patients and families.
- Act as a patient advocate and collaborate with healthcare team members.
- Evaluate patient responses to pain treatment and provide additional therapeutic measures as needed.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and patient education.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience working with geriatric patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Additional Information
- Must be skilled in managing clinical care including symptom identification, disease management, medication administration, and emergency interventions.
- Ability to maintain physiological homeostasis during the post-anesthesia period.
- Infection control procedures and protocols must be followed.
- Experience with psychosocial needs and patient education in the post-anesthesia setting is essential.
