Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Carmel, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a 31-bed med-surg unit focused on general surgery, urology, gynecology, and bariatric surgery.
- Must have experience with bariatric surgery, thyroidectomy, bowel obstruction, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI).
- Patient ratio: 1:6.
- Floating required.
- Prescreen question: Experience with voiding trials and/or urologic surgeries preferred.
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Locals not accepted.
- Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers are exempt from Indiana RN work restrictions effective 11/30/24.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
- Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Experience in bariatric surgery.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required. First-time travelers are accepted.
Health & Background Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
- Background checks including:
- 7-year work/lived history verification.
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III.
- Education verification.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted.
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required.
- Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted.
- Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31), no declinations accepted.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
Additional Information
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment within 2 years, with supervisory titles.
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist required within 12 months and annually.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, compliance, confidentiality, and policy forms required prior to start.
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing, preferably with skills in bariatric surgery, thyroidectomy, bowel obstruction, and CBI.
