Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse (IR RN MH INTERV RAD)
Location: Mission Viejo, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Interventional Radiology with mental health and stroke experience. This is a travel contract position requiring on-call availability and the ability to float between like units.
Key Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of specialty experience in Registered Nursing with stroke experience.
- No first-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience required).
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Other certifications may be required based on clinical track (verify with clinical leadership).
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for California.
- Pending licenses are not accepted.
Call and Scheduling
- On-call required; must live within 30 minutes of the hospital for stroke call.
- Call frequency: 12 calls per 6-week period, including one weekend.
- Weekend work required at minimum every other weekend, may exceed based on unit needs.
- Float between like units required; may be required to float to a nearby facility.
- Block scheduling accommodations at manager discretion.
Ratios and Work Environment
- Patient ratio: 1:2
- Facility type: Acute Care Hospital with 488 staffed beds
- Charting system: Epic (EPIC experience is mandatory)
Required Qualifications and Compliance
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum of 1 year of Interventional Radiology experience within the last year
- Stroke experience
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Background and Documentation
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years.
- Minimum of 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Drug screen: 10 panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
- Immunizations and health documents:
- TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination accepted.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- COVID vaccine or declination.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
- Fit mask testing required for travel nurses, updated annually.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Must complete Providence Health and Services annual regulatory and specialty-specific WorkRamp training modules prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Must complete Epic training modules and provide transcripts prior to moving to paid status.
- Photo for badge required prior to start.
- Acknowledgement of float policy required.
Additional Notes
- This position requires prior travel experience; first-time travelers will not be considered.
- EPIC experience is a hard requirement; candidates without EPIC experience will not be screened.
- On-call and weekend work are mandatory components of this role.
- Floating to other Providence facilities within a reasonable distance may be required.
This role is ideal for an experienced IR RN with stroke expertise who is comfortable with on-call responsibilities, floating, and working in a fast-paced acute care environment using Epic.
