Location: Santa Maria, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery nurse for a travel contract in California. The role involves working in a busy labor and delivery unit with a variety of patient types including high-risk deliveries, antepartum, substance abuse cases, pre-eclampsia, and insulin-dependent diabetics.

Work Environment & Details

• Unit: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum
• Beds: 14 Labor & Delivery beds, 6 triage beds, 28 postpartum beds
• Births: Approximately 250 births per month
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 2:1 in labor, 1:4 in couplet care following AWOHNN guidelines
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call Requirement: No call, but may be on standby
• Holidays: Worked in rotation with permanent staff
• Orientation: 3 shifts floor-specific orientation
• Floating: Must float to postpartum; postpartum nurses do not float to labor & delivery
• C-section Experience: Required to circulate for C-sections; scrubbing experience preferred
• Common Diagnoses: Any gestational age, antepartum, high-risk deliveries, substance abuse, pre-eclampsia, insulin-dependent diabetes

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active California RN License
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• AWOHNN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) Advanced Certification
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Additional Information

• Advanced Fetal Monitoring experience required
• COVID-19 vaccination required
• EMR system: Cerner
• Fetal Heart Monitoring system: Fetal Link
• Charge nurse duties may be assigned but typically do not include patient assignments
• Nurse aides and OB tech support available on day and night shifts
• No ventilators or IV team on unit
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
• Scrub colors provided for nurses and OB techs

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience
• C-section circulating experience required

Summary

This is a travel contract opportunity for a Labor and Delivery RN with at least 2 years of experience, required certifications, and the ability to work 12-hour shifts with weekend rotation. The role includes caring for a diverse patient population in a busy unit with a strong support team.
