Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Must have ECMO experience
  • Will float to cardiac stepdown unit
  • Average daily census: 7 patients
  • Unit size: 10 rooms/beds
  • Patient ratio: 1:2
  • Float required to units of equal or lesser acuity
  • Documentation system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Dark Gray

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty (CVICU)
  • Prior travel experience required
  • Preferred: Previous charge nurse experience
  • Skills include:
    • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
    • Management of multisystem organ failure
    • Intra-aortic balloon pump care
    • Post cardiac surgery care
    • Pulmonary artery line (Swan-Ganz) monitoring
    • Arterial line management
    • Central line and PICC line care/management
    • Continuous IV sedation
    • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • Care of ventilated patients
    • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas

Additional Requirements

  • Must not reside in the following counties: Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, Morris
  • Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or documented history)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start

Documentation & Competency Requirements

  • Unit-specific skills checklist (annual)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score)
  • Color blindness test (online acceptable)
  • Core competency exams as applicable
  • Photo for badge

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • One completed travel nursing assignment
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ECMO experience
  • Experience with interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Experience managing multisystem organ failure
  • Experience with intra-aortic balloon pump care
  • Experience with pulmonary artery line (Swan-Ganz) monitoring
  • Experience managing arterial lines
  • Experience with central line care and PICC line management
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation
  • Experience titrating cardiac drips
