Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Location: Smyrna, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

Unit: Women’s Services
Beds: 9 Labor & Delivery, 3 swing rooms, 2 ORs, 3-bed OBED
Patient Ratios: 1-2
Staffing: Unit secretary and scrub tech available; dedicated CRNA and midwife in-house 24/7; OBGYN on call
Documentation Systems: CPN and Meditech
Scheduling: Requires 4 weekend shifts per month
Floating Policy: May float to mother/baby or outside department for tasks
Patient Experience Goal: Maintain above 75% satisfaction

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, AWHONN
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Skills and Experience

Commitment to providing the highest quality care to laboring patients
Ability to support patient choice and promote vaginal birth opportunities based on patient preference
Advanced skills such as Spinning Babies and STABLE program are helpful
Experience with procedures including circulating in OR, IUPC, FSE, magnesium sulfate administration, postpartum hemorrhage management (JADA system), and nitrous oxide use

Unit Highlights

Laborist team model with 24/7 midwives and dedicated CRNA; OB on call
Personalized birth experiences tailored to patient needs and preferences
Couplet care in postpartum unit to keep newborns bedside with mothers, promoting breastfeeding and donor milk availability
8-bed Level 2 NICU with Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage 24/7, including attendance at high-risk deliveries

Dress Code

Uniform: Hot pink and black; black bottoms acceptable, hot pink tops preferred
