Description
Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery
Location: Smyrna, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Unit: Women’s Services
- Beds: 9 Labor & Delivery, 3 swing rooms, 2 ORs, 3-bed OBED
- Patient Ratios: 1-2
- Staffing: Unit secretary and scrub tech available; dedicated CRNA and midwife in-house 24/7; OBGYN on call
- Documentation Systems: CPN and Meditech
- Scheduling: Requires 4 weekend shifts per month
- Floating Policy: May float to mother/baby or outside department for tasks
- Patient Experience Goal: Maintain above 75% satisfaction
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, AWHONN
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Skills and Experience
- Commitment to providing the highest quality care to laboring patients
- Ability to support patient choice and promote vaginal birth opportunities based on patient preference
- Advanced skills such as Spinning Babies and STABLE program are helpful
- Experience with procedures including circulating in OR, IUPC, FSE, magnesium sulfate administration, postpartum hemorrhage management (JADA system), and nitrous oxide use

- Laborist team model with 24/7 midwives and dedicated CRNA; OB on call
- Personalized birth experiences tailored to patient needs and preferences
- Couplet care in postpartum unit to keep newborns bedside with mothers, promoting breastfeeding and donor milk availability
- 8-bed Level 2 NICU with Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage 24/7, including attendance at high-risk deliveries
Dress Code
- Uniform: Hot pink and black; black bottoms acceptable, hot pink tops preferred
