Job Overview

This position is part of a hospital-wide Nursing Resource Team (NRT) that floats across multiple units including Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Medical-Surgical (Med Surg), and Behavioral Health (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery). The role requires flexibility, strong time management, and the ability to work with diverse patient populations and interdisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care across various units as a tier 4 float RN.
• Evaluate, plan, implement, and document nursing care for assigned patients.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
• Perform patient tests and administer medications within RN scope of practice.
• Promote patient independence through education on conditions, medications, and self-care.
• Maintain familiarity with standards of care and procedures in all supported units.
• Engage in relationship-based, culturally competent care.
• Use clinical evidence and data to improve patient outcomes.
• Communicate effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams.
• Float mid-shift or between units as needed.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 or 1900-0730)
• Schedule varies based on unit needs
• Every other weekend required

Patient Ratios (Typical)

• ICU: 1:1-2
• Med/Surg & ED boarded Med/Surg: 1:5-6
• PCU: 1:3-4
• Behavioral Health (Adult/Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery): 1:5-6 days / 1:10 overnight

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 3 years of nursing experience in all of the following areas (can be concurrent):

  • Emergency Room (ER)
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) (experience within last 2 years required)
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
  • Behavioral Health/Psych (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery)
• Experience with cardiac drips
• Experience with non-invasive ventilation
• Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program (BSN highly preferred)
• State of Idaho (or compact) RN license
• Current certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Completion of Restraint C, MOAB 8-hour class, and Boundaries 1-hour module (can be completed during orientation)
• Department of Health & Welfare Background Fingerprinting (due to Behavioral Health floating)

• Use of restraint boards and lifts (covered during onboarding)

Additional Information

• Must be able and willing to float across all listed units, with majority time likely in Med Surg and Behavioral Health.
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
• Bed size varies by unit (21-35 beds)

Prior Travel Experience
